From Uncle HSU’s Dedication to a Second-Generation Legacy
Zhuowu Coffee Farm is located in Chashan Village at the southern end of Alishan Township, just a step away from Namasia District in Kaohsiung.
In the early days, Uncle HSU replaced the once-a-year bamboo shoot harvest with tea cultivation. With abundant sunlight during the day and mist rolling in after noon, the farm’s unique high-mountain environment gave rise to premium Alishan tea. Its reputation grew so quickly that the tea was often fully pre-sold even before harvest.
In 2001, seeing that the tea market was becoming increasingly saturated, Uncle HSU made a bold decision to end tea production and transform the farm into a high-mountain coffee plantation. He began planting several hectares of coffee trees at an elevation of 1,200 meters on Zhuowu Mountain.
Over the years, the farm has earned outstanding results in multiple competitions. In 2021, second-generation farmer HSU Ting Yeh participated in the inaugural Private Collection Auction (PCA) and won first place in Taiwan with a natural-processed Geisha coffee. The lot broke historical records, reaching an extraordinary bid of USD 500.5 per pound.
